Full moon party on Phi Phi
Phi Phi Island Nightlife | Phi Phi full moon party
The full moon party on Phi Phi celebrates youth, regeneration and the start of the new Lunar cycle. The beach bars and the 'Phi Phi Party Crew' celebrate on Phi Phi while many slide over to the full moon party on Haad Rin Koh Phangan.
The full moon party happens once a month following the Luna cycles and this is the time of huge parties across Thailand. The Koh Phangan full moon party is such a magnet to travellers in Phi Phi Island, that large numbers of them take the ferry over to Krabi, then take the bus to Surat Thani and then the ferry to Koh Samui. From here they get the ferry from Big Buddha Pier to Haad Rin West. (this can be done by purchasing a 'Joint Ticket' and purchased at an travel agent like Siam UK Travel and Tours). Haad Rin West is one beach at Haad Rin and a walk through of just 500 meters gets you to Haad Rin East side, the home of the Full Moon Party and the Drop In Bar, the Cactus Bar, the Vinyl Club and more. As the sun rises up out of the Gulf of Thailand it lights up the beach in a majestic glow.
Traditionally the full moon party dates are often times that are quieter on Phi Phi island as people head for Koh Phangan. However recently, with the advent of the crazy beach bars like Slinky Beach Bar, Apache, Hippies and The Stones Bar on Loh Dalum beach, Phi Phi Don Village, the island has done it's own rocking.. Similar in style to Koh Phangan but not in size, these bars pick up the mood early evening and take it through to dancing on the beach all night. The full moon rises off the top of 'view point' at about 10pm making for a spectacular sight. During some parties, the full moon mixes with lightning showers 40 km away on the main land mountains to give a surreal cinematic experience. Sometimes Phi Phi does have it all.
Full moon party with the Party Crew
The Phi Phi Party Crew works out of the Dojo Bar and during the full moon, party hard out on the party ship. These dancing, drinking, swimming, snorkelling adventures take you to places like Maya Bay on Phi Phi Ley adding great beauty to the party scene. As the afternoon closes in and the sun sets, this boats heads back to Phi Phi Pier. The party then reconvenes at The Dojo and the night goes on.
Full moon party in Low season
The full moon party during May till October 31st can be a great time to travel to Phi Phi. There is still a great party scene down by the beach but room prices are up to 40% cheaper than in high season. As it is quieter than at other times it can be a great period to check out all the famous beauty spots like Maya Bay where Leonardo Di Caprio made his enigmatic movie 'The Beach'.
Full moon party at the resort
The main luxury resorts on Phi Phi are up on the east coast of Phi Phi Don far from the full moon party scene. This ensures a quiet stay but there again, it's only 20 minutes by taxi boat to join in if that's what you need to experience. Those 4 and 5 star luxury resorts are the Zeavola Phi Phi Resort, Holiday Inn Phi Phi Island and Phi Phi Island Village Resort And Spa. The moon rises right off the ocean to give that perfect full moon experience.
