First Impressions
Bay View Resort
"Bay View Resort Phi Phi Island impressed us with it's views even though we arrived in the rain. Phi Phi Ley cliffs and Tonsai cliffs framed the ocean...The Bay View resort really caught our imagination as I set up in our room and look out through the woodlands to the bay beyond"
We were looking forward to our stay at the Bay View Resort. We got off the Songserm afternoon ferry from Phuket at the main pier in Phi Phi Don village arriving at 16.00. There was some muddle as we made our way through the congested pier head but finally found the porter sent holding a resort sign. Our bags were put on a trolley and pushed before us. They explained that as it was low tide it was impossible to get a boat to the resort.
Phi Phi Village
The porter turned into the main village almost straight away. We passed restaurants preparing seafood displays for the night, Dive schools, Jewelry shops and a whole kaleidoscope of businesses. After a statue of two huge gold marlin, the village thinned and we were on the sea front.
Past the rocky point at Phi Phi Don Chukit Resort, the bungalows started in earnest until we came to the school.
Arriving at Bay View Resort
After 15 minutes on foot we arrived at the Bay View Resort and enjoyed a welcome drink (we were hot from the walk). Our bungalow was a front sea view. I counted walking up 51 steps to the first level where our bungalow was. This was a bit of a pain but we after a day we were used to it.
Modest rooms with simple shower facilities were more than made up for by the balconies. Amongst the trees tops, those views of cliffs are something else...
In the evening the swallows started to swoop among the higher branches and tropical songbirds squabbled in groups of 10 or more.
Beach life was great at high tide but you couldn't swim at low tide. We had to go to Long Beach to get deep water. This was 15 minute walk away. Here the coral was excellent.
We had a great time and made some new friends. We are now told that they will put a swimming pool on the grounds and I think that will be a good idea. We had a great trip; it certainly was one of the quieter resorts.
Update 2011
The Bay View Resort goes from strength to strength and has a great season as always.
