The Police living on Phi Phi Island work to keep the interests of the local people, local businesses and tourists in harmony. It sounds simple enough but they are kept busy and often act as the go between between misunderstandings or helping with late night revelry.

Crime is minimal as, with most small villages, everybody knows each other. Police are rarely called upon to solve crimes and more often called in to mediate disputes. Sometimes drinking (which is to be expected in a fun and party atmosphere like Phi Phi Island) can cause disputes of misunderstanding.

The police are often seen out late at night to show the community they are around. They are quick to be on the scene should their be an issue and are always most thorough and courteous.

Jurisdiction

Any crime is reported to Krabi Police station in Krabi town on the mainland. This is where all issues are decided. Krabi Police in Phuket Town, Bangkok Police, Marine Police, Drug Police all have jurisdiction over the local police if present on the island.

It is the local island police that involve themselves with the day to day matters of Phi Phi island. The other police are rarely seen. The police are located just after Chao Koh Phi Phi Lodge before you get round to the Phi Phi Don Chukit Resort

Tourist Police

Tourist Police have been set up throughout Thailand in the last few years to help tourists. The level of English required to be a Tourist Police is considered better than in the normal Police force.
