During the day the ocean and the cliffs of the island offer plenty of activities. Start your day in Phi Phi with breakfast on the beach, then take a local tour (by boat of course, there are no cars) around the islands.

If you prefer to see the view above the water, you might want to try rock climbing - instruction and equipment is available or why not take a kayaking tour? You might even catch sight of the local sharks!

Snorkeling on Phi Phi

Huge coral gardens and exotic tropical fish galore is probably one of the best snorkeling spots anywhere. Depths vary from 2-7 metres (6-20 feet) and visibility is crystal clear. You can hire equipment from any of the local dive shops, but it's worth taking a tour to the reefs which fringe the islands.

Tours also go to offshore reefs (about 1.5 km) which contain more unusual marine life. As a plus, by selecting a snorkeling trips with a guide available, he/she will be able to identify what you are looking at and give you a better understanding of the world your exploring. Almost everything relies on a symbiotic relationship with other creatures and once you see how they interact with each other, it really starts to get interesting.

Masks and snorkels are normally included in the price, although these may be of varied shapes and sizes! Some operators have quality equipment while others have a standard mask and fins in limited sizes, so shop around, otherwise your underwater views may be limited.

Notable sites to visit - Maya Bay - location for the Hollywood film "The Beach" with good reef and wall corals. Camel Rock - for strange cave fish, Hin Klang for more remote coral gardens, and Hin Phae for shark watching.

Phi Phi Kayaking

If it's not already on your "must do" list pick up a pen and change it. By far one of the best ways to see Phi Phi picture perfect limestone cliffs, mangrove inlets, caves, and varied marine and bird life.

Many companies offer canoe tours around Phi Phi Don and the neighbouring islands, with tours combining kayaking, snorkeling and even shark watching! Meet the sharks for breakfast! Don't worry the sharks here are not the Hollywood type and have little or no interest in humans. Black-tip reef sharks and Leopard Sharks are beautiful but shy an timid.

Kayaking tours can be high energy and action packed with surging waves, caves, and blowholes, or more gentle relaxed paddling, depending on the season and the tour. Paddle during the day, visiting islands, snorkeling and swimming or take a sunset paddle and return by torchlight under the stars!

Game Fishing around Phi Phi

The Andaman Sea is home to all the classic prize fighters of the fish world. Black Marlin, Giant Travelly, Sailfish, and Shark.

Yellowfin, Dogtooth and Skipjack, Tuna are common, while Wahoo are plentiful during the monsoon season(June - October.)

Boat charter is available, or join a trip with other individuals (depends on demand) or hire a local longtail boat. Don't expect to take your fish home though, operates a "catch and release" policy to maintain the stock of these remarkable fish.

Because of the topography of the sea bed around Phi Phi and Phuket, before you get into fairly deep water (say around 100m) where there's more chance of landing that trophy size catch. You'll need to be offshore a fair distance. So a sport-fishing boat is recommended.

The crew's are experienced and will organize all the equipment setup and baiting if you like. All that's left for you is the fun part!

Rock Climbing Phi Phi

If you're a novice who wants to learn, or a proficient climber already there is plenty to do on Phi Phi Rental equipment is available as are guides and instructors.

For beginners and intermediate climbers Phi Phi offers far more concentration of climbs in the range of 5s to 6cs. Tonsai Tower of Phi Phi offers close to 25 routes in that range, single and multi-pitch alike.

But all of them will afford you a unique view of this paradise island.

Drinking Wall

Steep hike but worth it. Sector higher up in the jungle offers some of the best limestone in Thailand. Beware of left-side sector bolts that look like glue-ins but are not. In fact, some of them you can turn by hand. Easier routes on the right sector have been rebolted. To distinguish the two you must see the excess of glue on the outside of the bolt.

Ao Ling Wall

Prominent buttress on the left of Tonsai Tower is accessible in low tide (walking) or a five minute boat ride.

Hua-Ling (Monkey Head)

Twenty minutes by boat from Charlie Beach its possible to find a long tail boat to take you to a tower with two stunning multi-pitch climbs straight out of the boat. Land on a small rock (difficult landing at low tide). A very airy and exposed climb.

Monsun 7a

Starts on the same small rock as previous climb. Difficult stemming takes you straight up and left to the same anchor as third pitch of Djamuuk-Ling. Another classic not to be missed.

Koh Phi Phi Leh

Ao Pilay Wall in a small bay, 10 minutes left of Viking Bird Nest Cave, located over a small beach right side as you go in. Again at low tide watch out for sea-urchins. The right-facing corner, with a huge roof, on the left side of the beach, is called Black Tip Shark 6c.
