The Koh Phi Phi dress code is island style with only a few luxury resorts and dress is often limited to what people might take in light luggage. On the beaches around the main island, shorts, t shirts and bikini wear is normal, simple slip on shoes all the rage. Many spend their time of tour boats out to the famous sites like Maya Bay where they made the movie The Beach with Leonardo di Caprio. The most obvious additions to the above list for a tour out at sea are sunglasses and perhaps an extra shirt or shawl to cover up from the midday sun.

Koh Phi Phi dress code in the village is casual. There are no cars so everyone walks and this means that dress is simple and loose otherwise you over heat. Traditionally people used to wear sarongs and fisherman trousers both of which are loose and allow plenty of air clothes over the skin. It is ok to wear swim costumes in the village during the day as often this is the dress sense of the many day-trippers that take some time out off the beaches and stroll the streets in search of a souvenir.

At night time when the whole village seems to be full of people wandering the streets in search of a restaurant or bar, the dress code is different but not much more. The simple shirt and shorts are definitely smarter and the simple dress of the tropics is de rigour but the look of the wind swept having come off the beach is far less evident.

The dress code in the 5 and 4 star resorts of the Zeavola Phi Phi Resort, Holiday Inn Phi Phi Island and Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa (previously Phi Phi Island Village Resort And Spa)is easy tropical but men seem to prefer polo shirts shorts and the ladies are smart casual.

Thailand's dress code doesn’t really do topless in the sense that Thai culture doesn’t match the European norms in general life when it comes to travelling. Although some people do go topless it is not something that Phi Phi people (predominantly Muslim boatmen) find normal.

Koh Phi Phi dress code on the ferries

If you are taking ferry to Phuket, Krabi or Koh Lanta it can be great fun to sit out on the deck and take in the cruise. If you prefer to be down below it is air-conditioned to around 20-25 degrees which can be a shock if you don't take an extra layer of clothes with you.
