It has been a busy month! I started the month off with a group of volunteers coming over from Fallibroome High School in Long Island, USA. This was a group of 22 kids aged 14 to 17 years old, and 3 teachers. Their aim was to do community service aiding in the aftermath if the tsunami.

Much of the work has already been done on the island….. but, I can always find things to do! They spent their time between helping at the Baan Phi Phi School, cleaning the Memorial gardens, and helping to build some local housing. We even managed to get some beach cleaning in too.

I think that it was an eye-opener for the kids. They where able to work alongside the local Thais, and learnt a great deal about the people of the island. By the end of the stay they had all made a lot of friends and were sad to leave….. We managed to give them a good send off though. They had a fun day out on the boat to the beautiful Bamboo Island, where they played beach games, sunbathed, and snorkeled. Once they got back to the island, we had arranged a beach BBQ and volleyball game. The evening was rounded off with fireshows and music… all in all an enjoyable time.

I then in the middle of the month jetted off to New Zealand for a holiday. It is a stunning country, but after 2 weeks away, I was looking forward to getting back to my beloved island!

Just as I was flying back home to Phi Phi, the Phi Phi Youth Football team was jetting off to Vietnam. The Piers Simon Appeal raised the majority of the funds to send 24 over for a tournament and training in Ho Chi Min. Most of the kids have never been out of the country, let alone on a plane! On all accounts they had an excellent time, and learned a lot about the neighbouring country of Vietnam.

Once back on the island I met a presenter from Football Crazy aired on ESPN Singapore. Phi Phi is amazing, as you never know who you’ll meet. The people who visit here are from all walks of life, so, it is always interesting to go out and meet people. Anyway, with light of the Phi Phi Youth Football Team’s recent trip, I managed to get him to feature the team on his programme. It was so lovely to see the kids faces as they watched themselves on TV!

Another great month on Phi Phi… we are now all readying ourselves for next month’s Songkran Holiday (Thai New Year).
