Phi Phi beaches and tropical lifestyle

The Phi Phi islands are some of the loveliest in south east Asia. Just a 45-minute jaunt from Phuket, these picture postcard islands offer the ultimate tropical getaway. Classic beaches, stunning rock formations and vivid turquoise waters teeming with tropical marine life - a perfect paradise.
There are two islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley. The larger inhabited Phi Phi Don attracts hundreds of visitors to stay on its lovely shores, while it's uninhabited sister island is world-famous for Maya Bay.

Speedboats at Bamboo Island near Phi Phi

This Phi Phi Photo is taken of Bamboo National Par Island. The speedboat is the classic view of excitement on pristine nature.
The water on Bamboos Island is so bright here, sunglasses are defiantly advisable and have the added advantage of looking cool…!
I like the reefs on the north said of the island as they are even quieter than the south side. When the reefs are quiet you have a better chance of seeing the larger fish.
Bamboo Island is a must.

Beach in Bamboo Island National Park near Phi Phi

Bamboo Island in the famous Phi Phi islands is one of the unsung jewels.
The commanding cliffs of Phi Phi ley and Phi Phi Don catch the eye with their dramatic scenery and hidden bays but the Bamboo Island in any other setting would be considered a class act.

Bamboo Island is circular and ringed with a superb golden white and fine sandy beach which is then ringed again with a coral reef. The National Park office is simply manned in high season though is often absent. There are few visitors over night and in the morning but at about 1pm many boats arrive here on their tour of the Phi Phi islands.

The swimming snorkeling and diving here are magical.

Loh Dalum Beach near Phi Phi Viewpoint

Loh Modee is in the main village near all the hotels, resorts and guesthouses of Phi Phi Don Village. The proximity to the main places to stay means that it gets busy but in a fun way. Those people not a diving or sightseeing tour and those returning in the afternoon often hang out here to discuss the evening’s night life adventures.
The snorkeling off Loh Dalum is not Phi Phi’s best because the reef is about 250 meters out to sea from the high tide mark and difficult to get to. Having said that as so few people make the effort it is untouched.

Nui Beach and Camel Rock on Phi Phi Island

This Nui Beach photo shows Camel Rock on Phi Phi Don island. Nui Beach means small and the photo just about get the full width of it.
You can only get to Nui Beach in high season as the westerly winds drive rollers up the beach in rhythmic surges. The best coral around on Nui Beach is just off shore where there is a ridge reef which makes difficult access to the beach at low tide. Camel Island has very interesting cliff coral and on the seaward side plunges to almost 20 meters. To the north of the beach are some great cave and rock formations. These can be extremely dangerous so take a guide for exploration.
All in all Nui Beach can be a perfect high season beach, it’s remoteness and beauty make it one of Phi Phi island’s best.

Kayak rental guy on the beach at Phi Phi Island

The kayak photos on Phi Phi Island are all pretty easy to appreciate. But this one shows the guys who rent the kayaks out. A lot of Phi Phi Kayaking is done from Loh Dalum where you can rent a Malibu 2 Ocean Kayak and paddle around to Monkey Beach on Phi Phi Don.
It only costs a few hundred baht but I lo renting the kayaks because of the independence it gives you. You paddle, you want to stop, so stop, you are not on a itinerary. Hire a couple of masks a kayak and go round to Monkey beach and the best snorkeling is up near the cliffs on the west side of the beach.

Camel Rock as seen from Loh Dalum on Phi Phi

Camel Rock is about 40 meters of Nui Beach on Phi Phi Island. The smaller of the key rock features looks just like a Camel though the dominant offshore rock is a 30 meter.
high cliff rock.
Camel rock is surrounded by juvenile fish that swim in great clouds around the wholes and crevices. This is very beautiful high season snorkeling.
In low season the westerly winds make Nui Beach and Camel rock all but inaccessible as the rolling waves come in from Phuket.
The caves immediately to the north of Nui Beach are quiet spectacular but be exceptionally careful swimming here as the tide, caves and waves can catch you and be very dangerous.
