Maya Bay Camping : Overview
This wildly impressive location beats all others on Phi Phi Island for views and ambiance. This world famous beach, Maya Bay was made popular by Leonardo Di Caprio's movie 'The Beach', but if Truth be told has always been world class.
Sheer cliffs frame a perfect lagoon, the waters out by the colourful coral, teaming with a myriad of reef marine life. The main beach is where the camp is made right under the cliffs down by the sea.
Maya Bay Camping is a one night tour that leaves from Phi Phi Don Island every day at 3:30pm, (subject to weather) and returns to Phi Phi Don at 10pm the next day, spending time at Maya Bay after all the one day tourists have left. Maya Bay Camping is the only company licenced to do the tour so you have the beach to yourself.
The tour leaves from the Lemongrass restaurant next to the Post Office and heads out to Phi Phi Ley. It goes past the entrance of the Viking Cave before snorkeling at Pi Ley and exploring the in let by kayak. There is one more snorkel stop at Loh Samah before reaching Maya Bay and setting up camp.
The sunset at the entrance of Maya Bay is always a highlight. At night when the stars or moon are out it is breathtakingly beautiful. The night is spent around the campsite where there is a fire show, music and drinks served from cool box bar. For those who need a quiet experience there are many places to explore and hang out, just you and nature.
All tours vary depending on tide and weather and the captain and guide will determine the final itinerary on the day. |
