Maya bay Photo Phi Phi Island, the best beach in the world

Is Phi Phi Maya Bay the best beach in the world? Many would say it was. The perfectly golden sandy beach, the near perfectly enclosed cliff and lagoon, and the beautiful coral reef fit for the most discerning diving or snorkeling tripper.

I once crept though the hole on Loh Samah in to the back of Maya Bay in the middle of a storm in the middle of low season. The wind was blazing and when I got to Maya Beach itself it was perfect empty not a soul in sight. The sea was deep blue and wild with white foam out at the main Phi Phi Reef but over the sand it had an incredible turquios blue that took my breath away.

As I got to Maya beach a black tip shark was disturbed in no more than a meter of water and darted off to the deep. What a memory!
