One thing you notice as soon as you spend time in Thailand is how much street food there is to be enjoyed. For many it is as big a pull as the warm balmy weather and the Thai's welcoming smiles.
On the main through street from the main Phi Phi Pier to Phi Phi Viewpoint walk very near PP Casita this pancake shop serves an all day selection of sweet and savoury pancakes delish..... This is the part of the Phi Phi Don where tavellers come to stay to hang out for a good price, inexpensive accommodation is everywhere. PP Sacha guesthouse is under 600 THB a night and The Rock backpacker is definately an amazing deal at 200 THB a night a bed. Check all these places out and more at the bottom end of the page on the Phi Phi Don Hotel and Guesthouse list. Most of these places are not sold by phi-phi.com as they don't really work with mainstream agents so the information is pretty sound.
Travelling on Phi Phi Island has never been more fun.
Just added a few more images to my collection for rooms on PP and so will shortly be sharing with you on what is new. I also got a few new vdo s to add a bit more depth to the process.
Clear in the morning and then it clouds up and often rains in the afternoon. It's worse in in Phuket where the mountains stir up the rain clouds almost every day. This is definately unsettled for this time of year when you would normally expect to have switched into High season, still... 30 degrees is just fine by me.
I was going on the Maya bay Camping but managed instead to get a room in the PP Palmtree resort..... very nice.
After last night down at the Reggae bar and Irish bar it's been a very slow day. Perhaps a massage and a quick kat nap will get me back on my feet.
The weather at the moment is very up and down with rain, bright sun shine, humidity and wind fluctuation all the time. Still it allows the dive boats to get out some like Moskito diving (full at the moment).
It has been a very surprising low season with hotels booked out in late July and early August. Many on Phi Phi believe it will be a normal busy high season after a brief 10 week wobble May thought o mid July.
Phi Phi Island can get a lot quieter during the full moon party and for many, THIS is exactly the time to visit. My favourite is the Maya Bay Camping when on a full moon, the moon appears over the top of the cliffs by 10 pm.. magical. Also the rates in the hotels in low season can be very good value.
Facebook page at hotelatm has alot of cool stuff. Become a fan adn get the latest deals for hotels in Thailand.
https://twitter.com/ThePerfectBeach is the place to get some of the latest Phi Phi Island tips on what's on what's up on the worlds prettiest beach Maya Bay.
More whale shark sitings on Phi Phi ley. Palong wall is rarely in any kind of condition for diving but Hippo divers saw a whale shark 2 days ago. Visability has just got worse and their are some waves now but the weather is still stunningly sunny.
These pretty pictures of the bay were taken last week in the morning while the sun was still on the eastern walls of the cliffs of Tonsai Bay.
These are cool thin little beaches that feel really remote and yet are only 5 minutes from the main peir. In low season these beaches are out of the main westerly wind and stay calm. Just a hundred meters further south there is some great day diving and also one site I used for a night dive.
It's hot and sunny and my tan is fully topped up! I have taken the rythum of Phi Phi Life to the max. An easy brunch at the patisserie in the village, afternoon cocktails in front of the hippies bar followed by big nights on the beach having a blast.
Great weather at the moment! On another note their are signs that hotel prioces might come down on Phi Phi Island.
The tourism industry, which normally generates about 6-8 per cent of gross domestic product, is suffering from the global economic crisis and last year's eight-day closure of Bangkok's two commercial airports.
Among the measures proposed to revive sector, the ministry will urge Thai Airways International and other carriers to cut fares by 50 per cent to encourage more advanced bookings.
It is also urging the government to waive visa fees for tourists from all countries for six months, with a possible extension of a further six months.
The ministry has also asked the government to reduce value-added tax on hotel room rates for one year, and Airports of Thailand to reduce landing and parking fees at the country's international airports in a bid to persuade more airlines to restore their Thai operations.
Other measures would require government organisations to adjust their budgets for outside meetings and seminars so as to boost domestic tourism, plus a proposal that private companies' tax refunds for meetings and conferences be doubled.
Moreover, hotel operators have asked for an exemption from the annual fee of Bt80 per room they have to pay to the Revenue Department.
Banks, meanwhile, will be encouraged to extend debt-repayment periods for operators in the tourism sector for three years.
The Ministry also plans to promote the major destinations of Phuket, Krabi, and Phang Nga for local tourism by reducing airport taxes and surcharges.
In addition, all national parks should play their part by waiving entrance fees for three years.
The government has also been urged to help workers in the tourism sector, which faces a high risk of increased job losses.
Chumpol said the Ministry would seek an additional budget from the government to assist the tourism sector.
The Cabinet on Tuesday approved Bt1 billion to help tourism and related businesses, but more funding was needed to support the recovery effort.
Prakit Chinamourphong, President of the Thai Hotels Association, said three- and four-star hotels planned to discount room rates by 50 per cent for people visiting the country in February and March.
On another hot day in Thailand and here on Phi Phi it is as much as I feel comfortable to walk across the market to buy a cheap coke in the local store. Phi phi Hotels were full again yesterday and many of the people walking around at the end of the day were haggling with the touts over the best price for very simple guesthouse accommodation.
One of my favorites sites around Phi Phi island is the lion fish. Has been given its name the cause of its large mane like tentacles or fins that fan out from just behind its head. These brown black and white tentacles make the body of the fish up here larger and so this is considered a defense mechanism against any predators. The Tentacles are dangerous to humans as they have a nasty poisonous tip.
When swimming on all coral reefs the best policy to follow is to look and not touch. When it comes to the lion fish this policy is doubly gratifying and serious!
I saw this lion fish while I was snorkeling on Phi Phi Ley Maya Bay on the reef 150m from the beach. We Moored up on a buoy from our longtail boat had a wonderful often in before watching the sunset go down in the Indian ocean.
Clouding up in the morning and stayed that way most of the day. I went over to Phi Phi Ley and the weather wasn't any different there. Not a happy day out :(
