One thing you notice as soon as you spend time in Thailand is how much street food there is to be enjoyed. For many it is as big a pull as the warm balmy weather and the Thai's welcoming smiles.
On the main through street from the main Phi Phi Pier to Phi Phi Viewpoint walk very near PP Casita this pancake shop serves an all day selection of sweet and savoury pancakes delish..... This is the part of the Phi Phi Don where tavellers come to stay to hang out for a good price, inexpensive accommodation is everywhere. PP Sacha guesthouse is under 600 THB a night and The Rock backpacker is definately an amazing deal at 200 THB a night a bed. Check all these places out and more at the bottom end of the page on the Phi Phi Don Hotel and Guesthouse list. Most of these places are not sold by phi-phi.com as they don't really work with mainstream agents so the information is pretty sound.
Travelling on Phi Phi Island has never been more fun.
I can never see enough of Loh Dalum Beach on a day like this when the weather is perfect. Just the number of people hanging out on this beach and you know you are at the place on Phi Phi island. During the day it's a place to meet, take a swim and relax. In the evening is there any place better than the beach for enjoying the stars and moonlite nights.
PP Blue Sky Resort new buildings on Long Beach Phi Phi Island had just been completed when I was there in mid November. These new bungalows are a lot more modern and airy, a lot better designed and I am looking forward to seeing how they fit them out and what the interior decor will look like.
PP Blue Sky Resort is very popular with guests as it is right on the world class Long Beach Phi Phi Island with glittering views over towards the Phi Phi Ley some 6km away but standing tall above the horizon. The beach at long beach is sand white and the coral reef just some 20 meters off shore one of the best on Phi Phi island.
PP Blue Sky Resort is the smallest resort on Long Beach and probably the most intimate and has a growing number of return visitors who come to share some time in paradise.
The new Cabana Hotel vdo from Phi-phi.com gives a a good idea of the atmosphere of this resort. It shows the central pool area and hotel rooms and the layout of the swimming pool.
As the vdo of the Cabana Hotel pans out around the pool you see the setting of the resort which must be among one of the best in the world. One one side you have Loh Dalum bay with the striking view out over the Nui bay cliffs, on the next side you see the cliffs of Tonsai and on the third side hidden from view is the deep water bay of Tonsai.
Just added a few more images to my collection for rooms on PP and so will shortly be sharing with you on what is new. I also got a few new vdo s to add a bit more depth to the process.
Clear in the morning and then it clouds up and often rains in the afternoon. It's worse in in Phuket where the mountains stir up the rain clouds almost every day. This is definately unsettled for this time of year when you would normally expect to have switched into High season, still... 30 degrees is just fine by me.
I was going on the Maya bay Camping but managed instead to get a room in the PP Palmtree resort..... very nice.
After last night down at the Reggae bar and Irish bar it's been a very slow day. Perhaps a massage and a quick kat nap will get me back on my feet.
Finally one of the best resorts on Long beach is on phi-phi.com at http://phi-phi.com/hotel/thailand/koh-phi-phi/long-beach/phi-phi-paradise-pearl/. Here you are on one of the greatest Beaches in Thailand and get a charmingly run family resort, well away from the crowds in Tonsai Village. I havn't stayed here since they have completed their new rooms and upgrades but the tenure of the rooms looks alot better than the basic accommodation from before. The satellite TV, Fridge, all aircon rooms are also done out in a better decor than before making the experience of staying there alot more pleasurable.
Banyan Villa Gym of the Phi Phi Banyan Villa should be opening in November but it will probably be the normal soft opening where the the building isn't fully completed but the time of the opening is respected and so no face is lost. The celebration of the opening is at Tonsai Seafood on 31st and this will be a great celebration.
The gym itself wont go for the hard opening for a few more days, a couple of weeks, but mae pen Rai, (it doesn't matter) the easy going style of the island is why we love it so much.
Looking forward doing some gym work their myself.... a good price for the locals?, I hope so... ;-0)
I Know this one is about Phi Phi but I just found this amazing deal for 9 FREE Night - Stay 20 Pay 11 at the Tropical Garden Resort Phuket. It's at a very descriptive website but not very good for images so it seems any way. ... I reckon that is bargain of the low season if you are coming down in the next few days to the south of Thailand.
So what is all the hype about. Phi Phi Don Chukit Resort is a normal bungalow resort on the beach of Phi Phi Don Island. Well talking to people who have just got back from their, they love it because it seems to be the real thing.. a locally run resort with bags of character. When you you add in the stunning views of Phi Phi Ley, a great beach and it's proximity to dive centers, and restaurants and nightlife, you have one of Phi Phi Island's best kept secrets.
What I like about the place is that it has 10 types of accommodation so you can find what you want, from beachfront deluxe to a simple fan room for those on a budget.
The weather at the moment is very up and down with rain, bright sun shine, humidity and wind fluctuation all the time. Still it allows the dive boats to get out some like Moskito diving (full at the moment).
It has been a very surprising low season with hotels booked out in late July and early August. Many on Phi Phi believe it will be a normal busy high season after a brief 10 week wobble May thought o mid July.
Some of the best hotels on Phi Phi, an Island 50 km from Phuket and 1 hour 30 minutes from Phuket Airport are in the north of Phi Phi Don. Phi Phi Ley, made famous by the movie 'The Beach' starring Leonardo Dicaprio has no accommodation and only a camping adventure with May Bay Camping business.
BANGKOK: -- Yesterday 44 areas in Bangkok are badly effected by flooding due to the capital’s inadequate drainage system. So consider if you need to travel through Bangkok in the next coouple of days.
Most of the flooded areas have returned to normal (Forty-two flooding spots)on Monday but the Ratchada-Ladprao intersection and Pongpetch Market are still an issue as of 11am Monday.
Drainage and Sewerage Department Director Charnchai Witoonpanyakij said 'flooding in inner Bangkok could normally be solved within two hours, but Sunday’s rainfall took more time for drainage in some areas located far from the river.'
There are seven drainage tunnels in the capitaland the department plans to build another from Bang Sue district to the Chao Phraya River. This will be open to private sector bidding later this year and has a budget of around Bt2 billion.
The Meteorological Department has asked the public to be careful of heavy rains in many areas nationwide. The Gulf of Siam and the Andaman Sea are expected to have 2-3 metres high waves in the next few days.
5 star Zeavola resort has had a wonderful low season and is looking forward to the peak season around December when Phi Phi Island gets the best weather.
This is typical from the Phi Phi Forum. Maybe useful for you.
Sue and I had a superb honeymoon on Phi Phi this last week and wanted to share the info.
Weather-wise Phi Phi will be hot in August. How do you like your heat? up to 35 degrees. The main thing is to be prepared, take plenty of sun cream, drink lots of water and whatever you do stay somewhere with airconditioning! I have stayed there in May, and it was fine. Just keep out of the sun in the middle of the day – but then you’ll probably be indoors a lot anyway!!!
We stayed at the PP Erawan Palms Resort in Laem Tong which was just right for us as it a small and local resort and you could get to know a few of the faces around the place. The rooms were ideal and pool next to sea was the place we stayed alot. We spent some time over at Bamboo island and that is worth checking out early in the holiday as it is special. I would recommend the main village as it is full of drunk backpackers.
Phi Phi Ley is worth the effort but it was very busy the first time we went. We went the next day at 4 oclock and it was serene.
