BANGKOK: -- Yesterday 44 areas in Bangkok are badly effected by flooding due to the capital’s inadequate drainage system. So consider if you need to travel through Bangkok in the next coouple of days.
Most of the flooded areas have returned to normal (Forty-two flooding spots)on Monday but the Ratchada-Ladprao intersection and Pongpetch Market are still an issue as of 11am Monday.
Drainage and Sewerage Department Director Charnchai Witoonpanyakij said 'flooding in inner Bangkok could normally be solved within two hours, but Sunday’s rainfall took more time for drainage in some areas located far from the river.'
There are seven drainage tunnels in the capitaland the department plans to build another from Bang Sue district to the Chao Phraya River. This will be open to private sector bidding later this year and has a budget of around Bt2 billion.
The Meteorological Department has asked the public to be careful of heavy rains in many areas nationwide. The Gulf of Siam and the Andaman Sea are expected to have 2-3 metres high waves in the next few days.

Sue and I had a superb
honeymoon on Phi Phi this last week and wanted to share the info.
Weather-wise Phi Phi will be hot in August. How do you like your heat? up to 35 degrees. The main thing is to be prepared, take plenty of sun cream, drink lots of water and whatever you do stay somewhere with airconditioning! I have stayed there in May, and it was fine. Just keep out of the sun in the middle of the day – but then you’ll probably be indoors a lot anyway!!!
We stayed at the
PP Erawan Palms Resort in Laem Tong which was just right for us as it a small and local resort and you could get to know a few of the faces around the place. The rooms were ideal and pool next to sea was the place we stayed alot. We spent some time over at
Bamboo island and that is worth checking out early in the holiday as it is special. I would recommend the main village as it is full of
drunk backpackers.
Phi Phi Ley is worth the effort but it was very busy the first time we went. We went the next day at 4 oclock and it was serene.
Enjoy Phi phi island we certainly did!
Happy honeymoon. Terry

The
Koh Phangan full moon party is an iconic destination and event for many
visitors to Thailand especially those
travellers, backpackers and uni students who want to party on the beach.
Phi Phi Island can get a lot quieter during the full moon party and for many, THIS is exactly the time to visit. My favourite is the
Maya Bay Camping when on a full moon, the moon appears over the top of the cliffs by 10 pm.. magical. Also the rates in the hotels in low season can be very good value.
