Cars on Phi Phi Island Thailand
Transport,
There are no cars on Phi Phi Island Village as the area of the village has roads and paths too small the village is too busy with pedestrians, there is nowhere to park, the rest of the island is too mountainous. You have arrived in paradise. A place where every body slows the the pace of a walk.
One of the many things that sets Phi Phi Island apart from many other holiday destinations is the fact that there are no busy streets crammed with cars, no honking horns, no cars, buses and taxis polluting the air. This tiny island is navigated by foot and by boat which visitors love.
Some holiday travelers may be concerned at first about visiting a place that does not allow cars, but once there they love the fact that they can enjoy this island paradise that remains pristine precisely because of the lack of cars.
There are 15 Motorbikes with side cars that convey services for the municipality can be seen at 9pm. This varies depending on the time of the year and more are seen in the high season when the island is busier.
Local people in the main Tonsai Village in Phi Phi Don walk if it is not too hot... or use bicycles which are done up to look good with high or low handle bars and seats.
Trolleys are hand pushed around the islands loaded with suitcases or produce from the Phuket or Krabi markets. Whole Hotels have been constructed using this method of transporting bricks a scene from history reminiscent of Babylon or ancient Egypt.
The delight most people experience as they stroll along the beach among the hotels free from the hassles of car keys, parking meters and traffic lights lends Phi Phi island to the tropical paradise of ones dreams.
Since the tsunami in 2004 there are a few more bikes as the village has grown but it still moves at the same slow pace. There are still no land taxi services to get you around except for the pick up truck tuk tuk that takes people to the Tsunami village high on Phi Phi Don. This is used by village people only as there are no tourist services along this route.
Loh Bagao, middle Phi Phi
There is a truck up at Loh Bagao Pee Pee Island Village but most produce is moved around by boat up the creek to Lanah Bay or onto the beach in front of the resort.
Laem Tong Northern Phi Phi
Laem Tong (Phi Phi Holiday Inn, Phi Phi Natural Resort, Phi Phi Coral Resort) Laem Tong uses a tractor to take produce from the daily boats from Krabi.
Phi Phi Transportation: Boats
The main Phi Phi transportation, other than your feet, is longtail boat. There are boats that take you to and from all the primary Phi Phi beach. Once you get off the boat you can walk to anywhere you need to go in the town.
Phi Phi transportation by boat is fun, unique and inexpensive. You can even charter one of the boats to be a private transport for you or you and your family. The cost remains very inexpensive especially when compared to taxis in vacation destinations.
You will want to make sure you have comfortable shoes if you plan to walk around town and go shopping, dining or site seeing. Some first time visitors complain that they did not bring the right shoes for too much walking and they will be doing a considerable amount of walking.
Phi Phi Island transportation is unique in its simplicity and makes it part of the overall holiday experience.
